Why I Paint
Growing up as an only child I found myself having to get creative when finding ways to spend my time. From a young age I would gravitate toward watercolors, crayons, paper, really anything that could be used to create. Through other passing interests visual art was the through line into adulthood where I began to explore botanical art in a variety of mediums. First exploring florals in watercolor and acrylics, pen, embroidery and gouache; I have found that oil's allow me the greatest freedom to adapt.
In 2021 I welcomed my first baby into the world and felt a substantial shift in my work. I found myself unable to say what was on my heart through floral and botanical pieces. I wanted to create art that felt more profound and nostalgic not unlike every precious moment of my motherhood journey to date. I am inspired by the precious and fleeting nature of memories through my children's eyes. I explore the idea of saying goodbye to some of my most treasured moments in exchange for a dreamy scene that is reminiscent of a memory.
